Hi everyone,

Havn't got out there for a couple of months but have been inspired to give it a go after getting some new gear. Me and a mate plan to go on friday night at either sandwich bay or from deal beach. Does anyone have any info on recent catches or any advice about what rigs and bait to use? What state of tide is normally best?

Any where along deal beach is good mate,i would say try sandown castle deal side and fish it 2-3 hours on the up tide, deal pier is fishing well after dark with plenty of whiting dogs pouting & good sized codling,if dont fancy the pier try walmer castle or boundry road, best bait would be lug squid cocktail,iv heard that sandwich bay is fishing ok at the moment with some good sized codling after dark

for the rig i use a 2 hook flapper but the choie is yours and depends on your casting distance as well

Happy fishing and good luck

Agree with shopoter about walmer beach but if you want a dit of background lighting try West parade Hythe by the martellow house below a jounal I made of session last winter.

"Well that was good, on advice of nice lady in Mick’s tackle shop (nice shop if you down that way) I fished West Parade rather than Princes, between the "round house" (converted Martello tower) and the boat yard.

Had 30 fish
7 - Rockling
9 - Dab
8 - Whiting
2 - Pouting
1 - Bass 0.5lb
3 - Doggies best 1.75lb

Really nice day and venue good, beach clean and easy to fish, was warned not fish in front of tower or boat yard as a bit snaggy. Need distance here I was casting 85-90 at best, guy next 2 me casting 150+ and catching codling!!

Started fishing 11.00 (high water) 13.20 fish came regularly till 15.50 when ran out of bait.

Rod 1 - 3 hook flapper 1/0 lug or lug/squid
Rod 2 - 1up 1down 2/0 fished small lug/squid top and whole squid bottom

Rod Fish Time Hook Bait
1 Dab 11-15 B L
1 Dab 11-30 B L
1 Rockling 11-40 M L
1 Pout/whiting 11-55 M/B L
2 Whiting 12-10 B L/S
1 Whiting/Rock/White 12-45 ALL L -LS
1 Dab 13.00 M L
1 Dab 13-05 M L
1 Rock 13-35 M L
1 Dogfish/Dab 13-45 M/B L
2 Pout 13-55 T L/S
1 Bass - 0.5lb 14-00 T L/S
2 Whit 14-20 T L/S
1 Rock/Rock/Whit 14.25 All L/S-L-L
1 Whit 14-35 M L
1 Whit 15-00 B L/S
2 Rock 15-10 T L/S
1 Rock 15-20 M L
1 Dab/Dab/Dog 1.75LB 15-30 All L-L-L/S
2 Dab 15-40 T L
1 Dog 15-45 M L
2 Whit 15-50 T L "

Good luck
Peter

Thanks Peter - great report. Going to give deal beach a try tomorrow evening. I live not too far from Sandown Castle so might give that a go. Will post results in not too distant future. Thanks for the info guys.
