Been out in our little boat with my lad (10 yr old) trying to catch the odd fish , using mainly twisted booms with various lures, baits, mackerel, squid , sprat setting the booms around 8 to 12 inches off the bottom
We are real new to this so probably making a hash of it, any advice for best way to get the lad an odd catch , we are normally going out about a mile or so , anchor up and put the line over and see what happens, fishfinder often says there are fish there and we see others bringing some in , so its got to be us - we have GPS if there is anywhere specific thats good to fish around
Also where the place for bait in Hartlepool
any advice greatly recieved
thanks in anticipation |

You would be better setting the bottom boom right near the weight for the flatties using lug, mackerel, rag or mussel but although its not my area , this is the way I fish from a small boat.

try a long flowing trace with a blue 4" shad on the end mate, or you could always try the hokkais and pirks |

Thanks for the replies gents all advice is very gratefully received , Dicko , as it happens I ended up at Friarage on Saturday and your right , what helpfull chap he is, its just what a tackle shop should be , full of good stuff and free flowing advice thrown in , I will be back as Arnie is so fond of saying, he had plenty of rag and lug in so tried the lug, squid and a couple of sprats but no joy after three hours spent a mile or so off the Heugh and over by the power station at the other side. A seal popped up alongside us a couple of times off the Heugh maybe it scared the fish away
Gonna try again next week with the 4" shads weather willing, think I will leave the boy at home for a change I think his lack of patience is stopping me from finding out what the best way to catch something is, somone has suggested I dip whatever bait I am using in pilchard oil for a bit of added scent so might try that. Got to catch something I am starting to lose my superhero status with the boy !!! |
