just out of interest do you go fishing with a specific fish in mind or just see what you catch?
i am using bottom rigs and just seeing what i catch, mainly doggies and pollack
does anyone here fish chesil? what rigs do you use and what have you caught?
also couls someone explain to me how match fishing works, is it any fish caught or specific types, is it a combined weight or indevidual, do you have to be a club member etc
many thanks |

Through the summer I fish almost exclusively for bass, with the odd trip for sole. In winter I try to target cod/codling. When things are quiet I change rigs and go for anything that is likely to be swimming by. I used to go for flounders, but these have now become a rarity in our area. |

is there such a thing as a universal rig!!! one that will catch most fish as long as baited with the correct bait
or do you change rigs for each type of fish targeted |

One of the top match anglers around here uses 3 hook flappers all of the time. As for not being good to cast, he's dropping them around 180 yards. |

I fish for species. ANY SPECIES.
Chesil in the summer should be BASS, BASS, BASS Dogfish, BASS BASS.
In the winter it should be:
COD, COD, COD, in reality it is Dog fish, dog fish dogfish, pout, pout pout, whiting, whiting whiting.
And then once every ten years or so
Ah sole, these are sole aren't they or are sole larger? |

Fish Orford or Walton Pier around April time and you will. I think that anglers should be more grateful of doggies, they often feed when nothing else does and they aren't a bad fish to catch. |

While I tend to fish for Bass or Cod when they are about (Bass being the favourite) I have (as concrete will no doubt back up) a real soft spot for the humble old Flounder. It can be caught pretty much anywhere, gives a surprising fight on light gear and can be caught very close in. Many a slow session has been reprieved by a few Flounders! Personally I think they are very under rated. |
