Hi Celtic,
I would be very interested if you have any joy on the shore blank or not mate... but I hope you have some joy. Maybe a few have moved inshore and you will hook up.
I share your sentiments regarding the trawlers. One weird thing we noticed yesterday was that at about a mile out around all the oyster beds the water changed colour to brown from the blue closer in..... I am no expert but was this the work of the trawlers during the night scrubbing up the bottom....??? Usually it would be brown closer in and clearing as you get out.....??
Good luck anyway and I hope you have some tight lines and scaley rod butts.

Hi Mac, thanks for your intrest. Yeah...I agree that is a little strange. Does sound like thet've but up to no good again.
Well anyway...I got out this morning at oxwich for a couple of hours and blanked. Although I was fighting a loosing battle I expect, as the tide was on it's way out when I got there. Using some nice lug and some sandeels with an assortement of ranges and rigs, moved up the beach but there was no luck to be found anywhere. As I set foot in my house I had a call from another friend who wanted to go for a few hours..not being filled with much confidence from my trip, he eventually persuaded me to go try another mark that he knows of. So we get there and set up ..I don't know what to expect because i've not fished the mark before and he's only been there a handful of times himself. After an hour or so something started nibbling our and bait and every so often stripping our sandeels from the hooks. Then I look over as my friend dived for his rod and struck into what I thought looked like a good flatty. Then it appeared through the surf riding the wave like he was king of the sea....a lovely little small eye ray at about 1lb. He had beaten the blanking curse and to go with it a new species for him! Not to be out done... about 30-45 minutes later after numerous nods and taps I finally get a bite. Another gorgeous small eye..a new species for me also. Very happy with the result. Both were returned safely, hopefully for me to catch again in the future when they are bigger. |
