| There is some overlap with different manufacturers using the same blanks, but you won't get the likes of Zziplex allowing themselves to be rebranded. Century make blanks for some specialist rod builders, but these are still top end rods. I used to use Daiwa AWB rods and these soon softened and I have heard of them snapping. I've not heard of a Zziplex ever snapping. As for Greys rods, they offer a lifetime guarantee on their rods, which is fortunate, as from what I've read and heard, there are quite a lot of them snapping. The cheaper gear is perfectly adequate for many people, but as anglers improve their technique or start rock fishing, the more expensive gear will start to shine. I mainly use Zziplex and Century rods and Penn reels. I also have a 7HT Turbo for extreme range fishing. I am a great believer in you only get what you pay for, but occasionally a product comes along that surprises me with it's value. |
never a truer word spoken, well said.
if anyone honestly thinks that there budget gear is as good as top end gear then they have obviously never used the good stuff. |

And as for Tesco beans - they are actually a loss leader and Tesco loses money deliberately on them to get people into the store. |
The point I was making was that Tesco branded beans are packaged for them by the bigger branded companies.
So the product is as good, but is cheaper because Tesco want it that way. And the amount of tins that Tesco buy, the companies do not argue.
One other point that you may not know about is the buy one get one free.
It is the manufacturer who provides and pays for the freebie, not Tesco.
It is their 'loser', again because Tesco buy such large amounts that if they were to stop buying from a company. That company would lose a conciderable amount of money. |

But isn't that the point being made by Screaming/- other manuafacturers might well make quality beans for tesco, but Tesco sells them as a loss leader- the analogy with fishing tackle doesnt work because as far as I know the likes of Abu, Penn, Zziplex, Century etc don't make their products for other companies who punt them out at a loss |

As Donald Sutherland (Oddball) said to his Tank driver (Moriarty) in kelly's Heroes(my fav war film) "Always with the negative waves"- It's a mother beautiful fish and it's gonna be there- I just dont want to be using a rod that goes snap when I get it. |
