Hey guys. Just wanted to ask, what's the best way to catch a doggie! For example, what's the right bait to use, what rig/weights to use, how far do you cast, if they're caught at specific times of day and tide? Have heard some folks descibe them as pests but i'd love to catch one! Thanks HB |

Doggies will take any bait offered but you will do well with mackerel stips.
There are no hard and fast rule as to catching doggies as they will take your bait that is intended for other species..
5oz weight with a 3 hook flapper size 2/0 hooks and mackerel strps.
Good hunting.

All my Doggies this year have been caught between 80-110yards on full squid or peeler but this can differ due to location. moon, tide, wind etc and will often catch me a Thornie or Smut aswell.
Always use a 2 hook Pennel Pulley rig made from 40lb black and 25lb clear Amnesia with Sakuma Hooks.
No fish is a pest if you are having a bad session |

Unless you intend to keep them for eating then please return them to fight another day.
If you do intend to keep them for the table first cut around the head and pull the skin if with pliers.
If cut up into squares the size of an oxo cube and deep fried the the end result is rock salmon and they taste really nice.
