As a newbie, when i saw this in the shop, i thought `just what i need`. Might learn something here, i thought. Wrong. No content whatsoever, and a total waste of money, in my opinion. I learnt naff-all. Anyone else seen it ???

Oh dear, Mate sorry you've been had. But for the future, just remember that there is a huge pool of knowledge and experience on this site which you can tap into for free any time you like. If you like, I will tell you the basics of bass angling, as I have been at it for some time and had a reasonable amount of success, just PM me. Also have a look at this web site: http://www.mikeladle.com/osa.html
I will also say that it does take a year or two to find out all you need to know about your local venues but it is absolutely vital that you do. From my own past experience, I would say that you will have to put up with some blank days until you know your area fairly well.
Good luck

I know what you mean about on here, but a dvd i can sit and watch in my truck. Not that crap though. I phoned Mr Dale (oh yes i did!!!) and politely told him what crap it was. I will be very carefully scrutinising consumer law and the trades descriptions act, because, in my opinion, it does NOT do what it says on the `tin`.

Maybe I should do a DVD or a small book. I could include tackle to use, how to look for likely spots, what tides and currents to look out for, when best to fish, what baits to try (and when). How to catch them over wrecks, what seems to really get them going, how to use lures and a number of anecdotes and stories about bass which have turned up and taken the bait when least expected. All from my own or my fishing buddy's actual experience. What continues to intrigue me is the number of times and places they turn up and get caught when according to the "professionals" it should not happen. Makes me wonder whether some of these "big name" writers ever do go serious bass hunting. I have not considered it before, assuming that most folks soon pick up the knowledge but have now realised that I have actually accumulated over ten years experience of bass hunting and possibly know as much about it as a lot of the fishing magazine scribblers.

Most of the fishing dvds out there are conversions of old fishing videos, and I think it would be fair to say that a large percentage of them are more about advertising than fishing. You'll always get the obligatory zoom-in to the name on a reel, rod or jacket etc. or "I'm using the latest rod from...".

Basically, they are rubbish and you're not likely to learn anything from them. There is undoubtedly a wealth of experienced anglers using these forums that can advise you on boat and shore angling for Bass, so you should get some good beginner tips.

Getting out there without your tackle and chatting with the locals at your nearby Bass hotspot will also yield some good tips. Ask them about terminal tackle, tides and times etc. and note the spots they fish, their methods/casting zones and success rates. You can learn a lot just by observation alone.

Call me old fashioned but you can't beat a good book.

Hooked on Bass by Mike Ladle and Alan Vaughan.

Bass Fishing by John Darling.

Both books have been around a while, but have stood the test of time.

Couldn't agree more MJB. The thing about a book which you can't really do with a video is that one can study it, i.e., read the bits that may matter to you over and over until it goes in to yer noddle. I have a copy of old Huw Stoker's little book - "Sea Fishing in Hampshire and the Isle of Wight" which I bought years ago. I still study it from time to time to remind myself of what I am supposed to be doing and where in the Hayling/Pompey area. I believe the old boy died a couple of years ago, but not sure. Does anyone else know?

As a bass addict, I highly recommend the books suggested by MJB, you will learn a lot from them. My mates all say to me that I don't go for a bass session, just a bass season
