Fished town quay last night with bassman(goldenballs)rob big grin , his mate and deano , arrived at 5.30 pm had lunch then on to the fishing .... weather was a bit blowy with a few showers high water pushing 11.30 pm , was pretty quiet untill near on high water with plenty of bath shark sized hounds coming out getting more of a pest than the non existing pout there at the mo angry , big mackeral baits were geting nibbled by the bass and the worm baits were coming in nearly untouched , .... target species were bass and sole , for which rob was in with a nice sized slip ................

Image

then as we were trying to unhook that his other rod went mental , bending right over the railings big grin , struck and in on a 3 hook flapper with size 1 hooks baited with worm and was his first hound of the night about 6 lb ................

Image

had a little bash at the surface feeding smelt on tiny hooks for livebait .............. big grin

Image

great fun big grin , whilst playing with the monster smelt , rob had a another few rattles on his big maccy bait picked up the rob thinking it was schoolies again and lifted into a half decent bass of around the 3 1/2 lb mark , let me catch something rob crying .......................

Image

Then all went quiet again , well it was for me all night big grin , .........sat there and watched robs rod double over again , he then lifted into a good scrapping fish , so with the net ready and his mate climbing over the bars ready to net this hard fighting monster it surfaced and went absolutely mad , then realsied he had 2 hounds on a 3 hook flapper again on size 1 hooks , the biggest going 5 and the smallest at 2 1/2 that was foul hooked , hence the almighty fight (never seen that before) ...................

Image

, he was on fire suprise well what a cracking nights fishing amongst friends , stayed untill 5.30 am this morning rob left elated , deano blanked but he was only there for a couple of hours and only targeting bass , robs mate had a micro pout , and me a smattering of bath sharks and a solitary micro pout , great night and well done rob couldnt put a foot wrong big grin

Great report Lee and cheers for the replies everyone. One of those nights where it all came together and then some! I did absolutely nothing different to the time I saved a blank with a pout last week.

The smoothies were indeed caught on that rig baited with ragworm. I wouldn't dream of targetting them on such a rig though, I was after sole and scratching with it. I only managed to land them due to my massive drop-net, skillfully guided by Alex and Lee. We'd thought the bigger ones had moved on from the area after targetting them twice last week and drawing a blank on them.

Definately, 30 foot of water at your feet and you can fish from the car. The quay is a great spot for kids to fish.
