I've often heard you guys refer to prawns and shrimp as being top baits but do they have to be raw or can you use the cooked variety that you get from the supermarket. It's probably a stupid question but i thought i'd check before i potentially waste my cash! Thanks confused

Hi, ive not tried cooked, but would imagine the scent or taste would be less when cooked. and might only catch if the fish can actually see it. Cheers...Mick

I find raw works best but having said that when I'm fishing the estuary for flatties cooked prawns work surprisingly well.

My mate who's a seaman has caught Whiting off the ship with prawns from the freezer. Another mate swears by crab sticks but he also reckons he witnessed a seagull being dragged under the mud by a giant Ragworm and a Lobster turning off a gas stove.

What a clever lobster but there seems to be a strong stench of cow poo round here i dunno about you guys but i can smell it lol.
I have used cooked mussles but the only intrest they got was from the crabs i think they lose all the attractivness when they are cooked.

Cheers Tim

I'd have eaten the mussels and let the crabs find their own food. big grin

Any bait that has been cooked cetainly has become less atractive to the fish, but that dont mean that it won't catch, after all lures and suchlike catch fish
Cheers keith big grin big grin [/quote]
