Ok at the risk of putting my foot in it once again. The old Abu 7,000 was originally classed as a casting reel, but sincew the advent of the 6,000 series it has been re-classified as a light boat reel, why god only knows as the 7,000 has the line capacity, and the power to wind in a big fish also the retrieve is faster.
The new 7,500 is a dream to use and I should know I have a pair of them.
With the 7,500 you not only have a reasonable reel for casting but also uptiding and general boat fishing.
If you do get a snap off then you still have ample line to carry on fishing,
Cheers keith |

trying to cast a bait 200yards + would take some doing with any setup in my opinion and it not acheived by many people at all, if any
i have a pair of 7HT Mags and can not fault them (yet), easy to cast with and a great retrieve for fishing the clean ground but would swap to a Penn 525 Mag for rough ground fishing.
all my bass/cod this year have been caught inside 100 yards although it is good to have the ability to put a bait out 125 yards when i need to.
fishing is not all about distance, get the right bait and rigs for the fish you are trying to catch, the correct tide and wind direction, time of day, full moon or new moon all play a part in fish feeding habits.
just look at how many juniors catch fish at 40/50 yards |
