Hi all, just thought ld let you know about my first sea fishing outing on Gorelston harbour wall,on Friday.
I had been given a realy nice rod and two second hand reels,l didnt want to spend a fortune in case l didnt like it.l went to a local angling shop in Gorleston the day before, and purchased two rigs, weights and some rag worm.
So on Friday morning l set off,for the pier.Got myself set up once there, cast off into the river which l thought was flowing, ermm very quick !!!!!!!!!,then l was suprised l was having problems reeling in,a coast guard from the nearby station came down to see me and asked if l was new to sea fishing which ,l replied l was,he said l thought l was and helped me pull my line in,as l had broke my first reel trying to reel in.
So after, setting up my second reel,he advised me to fish into the sea, which l did. With in half hour l had caught my first fish,a whiting. Two other seasoned seafishermen arrived, and within a few minutes they got excited, one ran off to get his rod, with feathers ???????????? wondered what the fuss was,the other bloke told me the fish skimming on the surface were herring, the other bloke returned and started pulling these fish out,l couldnt believe it.
After another hour or so,ld managed to catch more whiting, and so am now tottaly hooked to this sea fishing caper, and cant wait for my next venture, with may l add,a brand new reel, and other bits and bobs lv been told will make the experience more better.
And may l add,lv never met such a bunch of helpfull folk lv met over the last few days. |

hi wizz,
dont worry about getting your fish mixed up as some fish are very similar looking and the differences are very suttle it can be an easy mistake for a beginner.so when's your next trip?
iv'e a boat in st.andrews harbour and so far this year only been able to get out once, caught 8 codling betweeen 2-4lb, which was nice.
either the weather has been crap or the sea's been wild looking forward to my week off from 6th june ,misses is working so if the weathers good i could be out there every day, ya beuty! |
