I reckon there will be flatties around there and shoalies too on the flood.Easy to ground the boat though. |

Are parts of the winner banks inside the bass nursery area ? I know it extends out to the fairway marker but cannot seem to find a chart that has the shore ends marked . |

That would appear to exclude a fair old chunk of the west winner bank but one would have to be careful not to drift too far east. Think I would make sure that I stayed west of the radar tower as much as poss. |

Without an admiralty chart and parallel ruler i`m none the wiser, still you have more chance of sighting moby dick than a fisheries officer and if you did happen to get your collar felt you would probably get away with it on a technicality as the fairway buoy dosen`t exist . |

Erm soz Sniggs but you might be surprised how often fisheries officers wander around the Solent. Admittedly I live on Hayling and hang around the beaches a fair amount but I have seen their little boat at least 1/2 dozen times in the last year. On one occasion last year I was fishing at the harbour entrance when a couple of them turned up in a rib. They got out walked up the beach to me and asked to see my bag. As it happened I had not been there very long and didn't have anything to show them. They quickly lost interest when they spotted a boat drifting down the channel with a couple rods hung over the back. He got boarded in double quick time but no idea what happened because the boat was about 350 yds away from me.
Knowing how hefty the fines can be I don't think I would risk it.
Oh BTW the fairway marker isn't a buoy, it's a ruddy great pole with a flashing light on top - clearly marked on my Ad. Chart about 3/4 mile south of Gunner Point. |

The fisheries officers must only work mon-friday then as i`ve fished out of langstone regularly for 35 yrs and never set eyes on one. Seen a few navy boys during cod bans (never seen them board a vessel) but no sign of them when there is no cod ban. I have gone past the fairway buoy (or as it is now pillar lantern) many, many times but the point i was trying to make is if the nursery boundary is a non-existant buoy would a prosecution stand up in court. |

Hi all,
The fishery officers/harbour masters are out a lot.At least 15-20 occaisions last year i saw a BIG fishery vessel in the harbour.Great big Grey boat about 70 ft long, looked a bit like the old WW2 Torpedo boats but bigger.
If you get inspected with a dead bass on board,it'll be boat gone hefty fine.
Tight loins
