I have heard of those Greys busting elsewhere (soz). I have two Diawas and two Okuma FS reels and they have both taken a fair bit of punishment. Don't buy the really cheap Okumas though. Of the two I prefer the Diawas as they are definitely smoother. Make sure that there is plenty of depth to the spool skirt whatever you get - some are very shallow and line can get trapped underneath - Penns are particularly bad for this. |

There seems to be a problem with the new greys rods being weaker than the older models, the older ones could take some abuse whereas the new ones dont seem to be able to take a decent cast. I have 2 PZ300T's an 2 PZ Match rods that are really good being older models, but I wouldn't buy another greys rod after the amount of substandard rods that have been sent out in the last year. |

Hi chaps,
My first Greys rod was the GRX I still have it ( 5 years on) and had not probs, it has caught me many fish, I now use the Triplex 16ft no probs for the past 3 years. I have in total 17 Greys rods, and have only had 2 problems with them snaping.I find that Greys have no problems replacing any broken rods with no questions asked. I must admit I live 12 miles from the Factory in Alnwick so replacment is no probs. If you are ever going up the A1 past Alnwick ( 35 miles north of Newcastle) pop into the factory, they have a shop and musem as they are part of the Hardys set up.
In the factory shop go to the top right hand side and there are rods for sale at half price, they tend to be ex demos, but are good.
Every year they have a clearance sale, last one was back in December, people come from all over the kingdom. Last year they were selling of Apollo mark2 for £100, uptides for £55 bargins galore.
I walked away with another 4 rods including a seaspin for £40.
The new Sonic rods come from a factory 20 miles south of me ,I may pay them a visit soon and see what they have up for grabs. |
