I hope someone can be of help. I suppose the easiest way to solve my problem would be to go to my local tackle shop but that would be to easy.I used to get my brother to buy all our rig hardware.I am ordering it myself and need to know what size American snaps to use on my leaders(heavy loses over weekend!!)All the differant sizes of swivels etc inn mags and on the net don't help much. HELP |

welcome to the site Madal,
Instead of american snaps (some of which have poor breaking strains),
use rolling swivels or crane swivels as these are both much smaller and much stronger. I use size 10 (40lbs B/S) for hook lengths and size 3 (100lbs B/S) at the top of the rig. Then use either a gemini or a breakaway link to attach to the bottom of the rig.
These might seem expensive but can be used over again and will last a lot longer than american snaps that are really not made for casting but just fishing over the side of a boat.
Hope this helps, Tight lines. |

I lost a huge fish on a mid channel wreck through a snap link bending out, never again . I certainly wouldn`t trust them beachcasting , one bounce on a rock and they open , seen it happen several times .

You,re not thick, just learning.
And we've all done that.
At the end of your shock leader tie on a gemini lead link, that way the swivel at the top of the rig can be clipped on and off in a second. |

| If your fishing in areas where a lot of people fish you might be better of with DC Easy Link, breakaway fastlink or the good old-fashioned mustad split ring as the gemini clips are prone to picking up line snags - in some places they are just a damn liability. |
