| Hi guys, I fancy doing a bit of mackerel fishing off southend pier tomorrow on the way to my dad's and I just wondered how best to go about it. Is it just a case of casting out feathers with a lead underneath and reeling back in or is there slightly more to it than that?! Also, any info on the pier itself such as opening times, prices etc, would be most helpful. Cheers |

if theres any depth of water there you can just drop them over the side untill they reach the bottom , then tighten the line up and (pump)lift the rod up and down
remember there is more than one hook on the rig so dont reel in straight away give it a few more seconds as the fish travel around in shoals , so you could get a full house (6 fish )
the trouble with casting off of a pier is not hooking the person next to you and with six hooks theres more chance of catching some ones ear or other body part
good luck

hi m8,i've been a couple of times this month, had a few mackrell on these little shrimp things like feathers.also had 2 bass on them aswell.
they dont let you over head cast you have to put your rod over the edge and underarm cast or just drop over the edge.its less snaggy if you go to the right hand side at the pier head.
the price is £3.50 to fish all day with 2 rods that includes the train ride both ways, you have to be of by 8pm,i think it opens about 8.30/9.00.
you can fish pretty much any time but i always find 3hrs either side of high tide best.
go to a site called easytide for times but remember to add 1hr for brittish summer time.hope this helps.
