Help needed for a spinning beginner - Mumbles

Hello out there,
My first post on this forum 30 minutes after my first fishing trip for 20 odd years. I bought a spinning rod / reel combo and asked some advice in the shop on what tackle to buy. I want to spin fish with lures down my local beach - Langland, Swansea. As you say on this forum - I blanked! crying

I don't really know where I am supposed to be casting and how far out, anyone got any ideas?

Welcome to the forum mate, the best chap to ask is shorty as he fishes that area quite frequently as soon as he spots your post he will reply. The other chap who is very helpful is Bigbassman as he also fishes that area for bass and mackerel. Sorry I cant be more helpful but as you can see Im up north. keith

sorry for the delay in replying ,ok here goes ,first or last light is best for spinning for bass, fish of rock marks but go carefull etc ,[am] dexter wedges various colours, spinners,jointed plugs [various depths] and surface poppers [pm] the surface poppers are a must at dusk the noiser the better ,live sandeels work well when "spun",use "flourocarbon" as it just allows the "bait" to be seen dont use bright lines , but to be honest it is trial and error if the fish want to take it they will ,dont spend a fortune on
lures as the simple ones are often the best

part two,
distance is ne where from 10 ft to 30 ft out , i try the "clock " method start with 12 oclock on your left or right and start to "work your way round to "6" and at various depths and change lures every "hour"
that should cover most things i think
tight lines big grin

Good info, thanks. I tried again Sunday morning from 5am, hour after l/w, to mid tide. No bites at all. Varied lure between eddystone eel, dexter wedge and the coloured metal thingy's with 3 hooks. I'm using a float half filled with water and varying the line after it from about 3 ft to 6ft, this is an "invisible line" I was told by the chap in Basstastic. I'm casting about the length of line that came with my fixed spool, looks to be about 50-60 yards and varying the speed I reel in. I've tried without a float but it doesn't feel right, lure just snags from 1 rock to another when I reel in.
I'll try the clock method tonight and move further east towards Limeslade, thanks for your help.
