Hi iam looking to start sea fishing and as of yet havent bought any gear, however i live in scarborough and dont fancy fishing from marine drive or the light house area, any have any ideas of a good local spot, i did some mackeral fishing last year but got nothing even though others around me were pulling in fish, i had the same tackle and spinners any thoughts .
Hi Dezy, Ive fished the pier at Scarborough for the last few years, Its not a bad spot, but can get very crowded in season, If you want a good low water mark, try the beach just past where the hotel fell into the sea. If you watch the waves as they come in, at certain points the wave disappears as its coming in, this is because of troughs, just cast into the trough. Failing that, Filey Brigg is good, just by the escape ladders, Or if you want to travel a bit, Whitby pier is another option. Hope this helps, Happy fishing, Mick
PS, will be fishing the pier on sunday, 13th APR. pop down and see us if you want to, I will most likely be on the wall at the pier end where the green light is.

Hi mate used to fish scarbourgh pier, lots of dabs, whiting and small pollock/collies and the occasional lobster. Mainly small fish though and you may lose a few rigs/weights unless you reel in fast as there is a lot boulders the size of houses at the base of the wall. We have caught a few good fish though in the past odd codling other places to try are bridlington harbour, very easy fishing and a lot of small fish with the odd bigger size thrown in for good measure. The main thing is to pick your tides i find a couple of hours upto high water and a couple down is the best but pick the bigger tides. if you can you tend to catch better on a night time tide as the fish come in closer under the blanket of darkness and tend to feed better, plus at brid i have caught a few bass and seen a few caught but have never seen one caught at scarbourgh. during the summer months you should also catch a few mackrel to feathers cast out and jigged back to shore. The tackle shop in brid is fantastic to (very helpful) and good bait.
hope this helps cheers martin

Hi Dezy
Got a couple of suggestions if your starting out. Filey promenade either side of highwater is a good start. It's easy fishing, you don't have to belt ya bait out! Locals fish it anywhere from where the paddlingpool is to the end of the prom going towards primrose valley. I just use a heavy spinning rod cos it's full of flatties and if theres a bit of surf schoolies. Whiting and the odd Codling aswell in Autumn/Winter.
If you fancy a bit of beachcasting then Reighton Sands is a good spot from low water to high water. Same again no need to belt ya bait out, aim for about 30 yards. For both spots try and aim for about dusk to get setup, darkness does do wonders!
