New to boat fishing

Hi,Ive had the good fortune to purchase a small boat,electric outboard etc..before I got paid off.I am going to try out fishing from the boat possibly places like loch long,loch fyne etc..

Am I better with a boat rod which has rollers or just regular eyes?

Are there any good budget boat roads out there? I have looked at the Fladen 7foot with rollertip 30-40lb class as I can pick one up for £12.99.

Am I better to invest in something pricier to play with or would this rod do?
I am not bothered about a rod lasting for years at this stage as I really don't mind spending the money to upgrade later on,I can hold onto my budget gear for friends to use!

Any helpful input greatly appreciated!

i wouldnt worry to much about getting expensive gear at the moment
i dont know what you will be aiming to catch so a lighter rod may be better suited

i would make sure you spend good money on flares lifejackets or a flotation suit also a spare engine or a good set of oars if fishing a loch ,
i wouldnt venture out to sea without a spare engine also some sort of communication equipment vhf etc

the guy you want to look out for is rabbi2 he will be able to help better ,whatever happens stay safe its an excellent hobby and hopefully you get your tea for free as well

Hi mate, First of all there is a caravan site on loch long itself near arrochar. Launcing is easy with good access as they have there own slipway. Ok I have 4 boat rods for sale £30 each brand new not used. The best rod I can suggest is the Fladen soild carbon boat rod with the Okuma Magnetix Reel. They are not cheep about £100 for the rod and £80 for the reel but I can think of no better combination than this. If you purchase the rod go for the 60 to100lb class as even a small flattie will register on the rod. You dont say where you are or what equipement you have on the boat. Once you tell me this then I will do my best to help you further. keith

Well I had to scrap my boat idea as the inflatable is ex-nato and made of HEAVY,heavy,duty rubber making it almost impossible for 2 or even3 people to manouver it.

I have decided to try my ultra-stable 3man canoe for fishing instead.Boat rod wise,I have a ron thompson hardcore 7footer 20-30lb class,and a penn commander reel.

I know the ardgartan campsite well from feeding midge there in my younger years(and I fed them well!!)

I am based in paisley but tend to do my fishing loch long/loch fyne,I had stopped fishing for around 10-11years,but decided to take it back up.

I have 3 kayaks,but reckon the canoe would be alot better for fishing from as it is more boat like thanks to its twin hull,unfortunately it means paddling,but I remember my dad taking us fishing loch long in a 2man kayak back about 25+years ago lol.

I know my rod and reel are cheap,but they should do me for a short while till I can save for better gear(The missus will kill me if I spend any more on fishing gear just now lol!)

The gear that you have should be adequate for the typ of fishing you'll be doing. Stay away from the submarine penns at the top of loch long as your likely to be into big conger and a conger in a thee man canoe is not my idea of fun. lol

You didnt say if you had purchased the rubber dingy if you did and your looking for a return on it I might be interested. keith

I got the boat from my dad,who has another the same size etc... but with a trailer and a big outboard.
My dad was using them for going scuba diving up at loch fyne before all the diving schools started taking up every parking spot.
He has been talking about selling the boat with the outboard and trailer.

I will avoid the sub pens at all costs lol,don't fancy a conger taking me for a swim!!
