i have seen a few people say they can not use a bait pump ,so heres what i do .I think they are brill i always get plenty of lug with loads left over for next time .

i always make sure the nut on the bottom of the pump is tight as it will go and keep checking during the session as mine seems to loosen

i always pump as close to the tide line as possible as the sand is wet so it pumps better and i have been told the worms are higher up in the sand which i think is true

i place the pump over the cast and push the pump about 3 inches into the sand ,lifting the handle as i do so then push out the sand ,you will get a tube of sand then i just repeat this a few times getting deeper all the time if you get no worm after 4 pumps i move to another cast

also i find that the wetter the sand is the better the pump works

the darker casts are from deeper worms so i usualy ignore those if there are plenty of worm casts about

i put the worms in a bucket ,just covered in sea water , then when its time to go home ,I clean all the sand off of them and check none of them are broken as the dead one will kill the rest , so if i am going fishing the next day i will put the injured ones in newspaper and use them first

i have found that flatties love smelly dead worms so dont chuck them use them it works

hope i haven't upset anyone by telling them what to do but if like me ,my pump came with no instructions on how to use it just said after use loosen your nuts and wash with fresh water

Take a bottle of fairy liquid, it makes great lubrication so you get a smoother pull. Just pour some down the hole in the side of the pump (if they still have them) and just pour some more when it starts getting stiffer. Doesnt affect the worms or the pump in any way.

Yea, i think its fine but you tend to suck the guts outa them, which i dont think is such a bad thing.

what are common lug mine always come out of the pump in a dinner jacket drinking brandy devil

if you mean yellow tail then yes, thats the majority of the ones down here ,

No worries, it makes it alot easyer.
Black lug are the really big casts that have giant holes about a foot away from the cast, there usually found rite on the edge of the lowtide marks, they cast just as the tide turns back in. Spring tides are best.
