This has probably been posted before but it's definately worth repeating for newbies.
If you have a fixed spool reel get a breakaway cannon.
I haven't had the privilege of using one until today and my casting is now over 100 yards on an overhead thump whereas before it was rubbish.
It gives you a hell of a lot of confidence on every cast and it really is a doddle to use. It will be especially helpful to me in wet or foggy weather.

This is good advice chaps. winking

What is a breakaway cannon and how long has it been on the market.

Very nice bit of kit! happy
The amount of times I had to use thumb stools when using a fixed spool confused .
any power casts with a fix spool is going to cut into those fingers sad
This little devise will eliminate all that pain happy
Cheers

Sorry about the delay in replying.
I took it up to Frinton today and I'm doing some serious casting now. Had a crackoff though.

All you do is wrap the line round the nob, pull the trigger which locks it. Chuck it out with all your might releasing the trigger at the time you would have done with your finger.
I'd say you'd get another 50 yards on your cast unless you've got fingers made of iron.

You could have done a better job lol, I whiped mine on. The last thing I want is for it to fly off midway though a cast.

When I replied to this post I was unsure just how much they were. I now know since I have obtained two for my mates, that they retail at £11 but I can get them at £10.

On the net they retail at $34.95 that is £16.50p or there abouts, so I think a tenner is a good price from a tackle shop. By the way BBM I got one for you and shorty.
