Hello All
Can you tell me how often do you re use Rigs?
Do you use only once then change the hooks?
These ready made Rigs how many fishing trips would you use them before throwing them away?
Thx Guys |

The best way to tell when you need to change your hook simon is when you try to hook baits and the hooks feel blunt or if the snood line feels rough, if youve been fishing a shingle beach they would usually need changing aswell, I tend to change mine every 3/4 times of useage

as im always catching loads i am forever changing hooks
seriously every two trips i change the hooks
also i have a seperate rig wallet for my recently used rigs so i know which ones need changing
also feel the line between your fingers when going through your rigs and you should be able to feel ant wear and tear
but most importantly if you do buy ready made rigs check all the knots as you will be swearing when that lead goes flying off onits own or that bigfish drops off in the surf
i bought a few ready made rigs, studdied them then bought all the bits and then copy them ,it feels a lot better catching with your own rigs
cheers steve |

What i do is leave the wallet for my new rigs and when i've finished fishing i wind the used rigs on to rig winders. When i de-service me kit and rincing my reels off, i also rince the rig off. I find it helps stop the hooks from rusting.
The other thing to look for is, if your fishing an area that holds lots of spider crabs, check your snoods as they severly weaken the snoods around the hooks, that is if they haven't snipped them off. |

| I rinse my rigs after use and then a little squirt of WD40 in the little plastic bag I put them in prior to the rig wallet. Chemically sharpened hooks usually need changing more frequently as they tend to lose their point quite quickly on the shingle.. |

being a devout skinflint most of my rigs get used and reused till i either loose them or they become damaged .
small fine wire hooks such as aberdeen patterns get replaced regularly as their fine points dont last long on the beaches i fish . usually 1/2 way through the session and def' b4 the next , snoods are replaced as well.
larger hooks (vikings mostly ) last me up to 2 sessions but i def check the points dureing a session and replace as nessacery.
this is easy to do on flappers and the pulley rigs that i mostly use but awkward on clipped down rigs where snood length cannot be varied by much, ( i miss those old breakaway coil crimps as those could be moved to ajust)
when the rig bodys have had it or i can't be bothered with tieing in accurate lengths of new snood, components are stripped and used to build the next set of rigs . |

| If you want to save money then resharpen the hooks and use until the line is damaged. |
