went hengistbury head yesterday afternoon for 4 hours, fished off the end of the groyne just to the right, caught 1 nice size mackeral 1 garfish 1 pollock and a shedfull of small wrasse and a couple of good size wrasse, float fished useing rag, squid, and sand eels as bait, had most fish with the rag, a fun afternoon on a beautiful day.
whilst there there was another angler spinning, by the way he was casting it was obvious he was new to the game, so i spent 10 mins showing him how to cast and giveing him a few tips, he said he had a float but no bait so i gave him all my left over bait and told him to fish where i was, as i was just about to leave, he was so happy and grateful it gave me a good buzz i just hope he managed to catch something. Yes Hengistbury head groyne will fish great and will only get better as the months move on, if you ledger off the bottom you will catch the larger species of wrasse anything up to the 4lb mark
Its a great fishing venue but can be hard to get a spot during the Holiday months as it gets very busy with Holiday makers.
cheers and well done
