Best atractor for flatties are 5 to 6 beads in bright colours fastened two inches from your hook. Hooks sizes 1s to 1/0s

try some garden worms sounds silly but can work
put them on as lug , but will need to be changed more often as the salt will bleach them white
look in the rockpools any shell fish can be used
if you find any mussels they are dark purple/ blue colour use them they are brill for flatties and freeze them down for the cod ,i had a few this winter on mussel , only small but they work well
dont forget the elastic cotton to tie them on

Best attractor for me is a mackerel tipped worm bait slowly moved across the bottom, nothing fancy, no grip leads or beads just highly effective. Cast out wind in VERY slowly ideally using a watch lead, works even better in clear water. No luck with the Pollack then!

Hi,

We bagged a few flatties at Berwick Upon Tweed at the weekend. Fishing from the lighthouse at low-tide suprise

Caught on a single hook flapper rig with Rag & cooked mussel.

Regards

If you've only got lures I would stick to the pollack mate, it does happen but is very rare to catch a flattie on unbaited lures. If you have a crab line bait it with bacon or another bit of tough meat and use any crabs you catch in deep rocky water to catch wrasse! if the water is deep enough they will be very close to shore, 8" hooklength 3ft up from the weight. Hooking hard crabs not easy but break of a back leg and put the hook in there and bust it back out the bottom somewhere. Without bait supplies though pollack would be my target big hug

Yes mate they do catch fish even in freshwater. Dont be shy about the pollack alot of the small ones get eaten, they are the prey in your local food chain probably more than mackerel! Skate fishermen use 2-5lb pollack for bait, and in Norway they use smaller ones for Cod. Good luck with whatever you use but I,d definitely try prawn. big grin big grin

Defrost a few at a time in salt water when you get to the mark, takes about 1min, Crayfish tails would be a new one but I can't see why not since I find them tastier than prawns big grin big grin And therefore so should the fish. Its amazing what you can get fish feeding on Bass and black bream on bread, bass on sausages and you just reminded me that bacon rind can catch flatties. Experiment cos most fishermen are stuck in their ways and we can all be taught a lesson by something new big grin big grin
