Mackerel fishing during the Summer really is simple and requires no skill whatsoever (in my opinion!). All you need to do cw is buy a mackerel trace or two, two weights and maybe some swivels.
All you do from there is tie the top of the mackerel trace to the line from your reel and then tie a weight onto the bottom of the mackerel trace.
That's all there is to it.
Why not start now while the best fish are around the UK? |

I was fishing Cricketh beach early one morning last spring, when an old boy came down onto the beach at about 7 oclock, he put his fag out, put his two piece (what looked like) spinning rod to gather, he had some feathers tied on, he picked up some sea weed and hooked on the last hook, he cast about 10 yards, three times and hooked a large mackrel. he had another fag, few more casts one more fish and he was gone. LOL

Buy some hokai feathers. Cast out and them pull the rod all the way back and reel in the slack. Keep doing that untill you catch. Look out for what looks like rain on the water surface too. Its most probably mackrel chasing the whitebait around the surface. Hope that helps.

Also don`t take too many home thinking you can freeze them as they need to be spread out and frozen fast or they will not be good for bait.I find a batch of 20 about right in a large chest freezer. Leave em whole but cut tail fin off coz it goes through freezer bags like a knife when frozen!

Mackerel are one of the easiest fish to catch, they will eat just about anything offered, they are one of the fastest preditors in UK waters and hunt by sight as well as scent. That is why anything bright coloured or shiney they will attack. Great sport can be had on light tackle but most people use heavey gear to winch them in as they are a super bait for other species. I have seen them caught on bare shiny hooks. Hope this helps.
