I have noticed that quite a few folk ask what am I likely to catch at this time of the year so for them I decided to list them bearing in mind that this is only to be used as a guide and not as a Bible. OK here goes,

From the Shore
Bass from mid April to end of November.
Coal fish from Jan to April.
Cod from Jan to April.
Conger All the year round.
Dab Jan to April.
Flounder Jan to middle March.
Garfish from May to October.
Mullet form May to October.
Mackerel from April to December.
Plaice from April to end of November.
Pollack from End of April to middle November.
Pouting From middle of Feb to middle of December.
Ray S Eyed From June to December.
Ray Thorn from April to end of October.
Ray Spotted from June to middle of November.
Ray Blond from June to end of November.
Turbot from June to end of November.
Whiting from middle Jan to end of April.
Wrasse from middle of may to middle of November.

Please note that this is only a rough guide as there are so many variables , wind, tide and weather. this is aimed at the newcomer to sea fishing.

I will do a similar post under general boat fishing later. Hope you find this helpful. Tight Lines

They are caught from the shore mainly in the thames estuary and in the outer hebrides, available about the same time as ray's. Some time since I saw a shore caught skate, they are declining in numbers that I do know. Hope this helps. keith

"Skate" down kent are rays, and their wings are called "skate" in the chippy not the huge "skate" speacies that are a deep water northern fish, and i am reliably informed (as i have yet to catch one) their shore season is march to september from Sheppy in march and making Sandwich about may-june in numbers though as with all fish they dont care and can be caught outside of these time
