I hope this is in the right section!

Being somewhat new to sea fishing and a bit bored of feathering for mackerel which is as far as my experience goes at the moment i would like to try for Bass.

Advice I've had from friends is all a bit confusing, some say live bait other say lures and about a million other techniques.

From what I've picked up my first attempt was going to consist of -

Fishing from rocks (well, one big rock) the bass are occasionally visible here and the depth is about 10-15ft at high tide.
12ft carp rod 2.5lb test and spinning reel (all i have apart from that are 12 and 13ft 8oz beach casters and a cheap shakespear 8ft rod of some kind)
10-15lb fireline or simaler
Large x-rap rapalas or joey mackerel if i can.

Providing i find bass do you think this setup would produce results or should i forget it and try something else?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

seeing that your new to fishing for bass i would recommend fishing either mumbles from the rocks past the pier or rhosilli beach near to worms head and the wreck of the helevetia or sumfink. if not try the loughour estuary.

tight lines

Hi Callum, I've been fishing in New Quay and in Cei Bach just around the corner and have caught Bass there on Rag and by spinning. Have you tried talking to the staff in the tackle shop on the top road, they'll give you some good advice and will have the knowledge if anything has been caught lately and with what bait/rig etc.

Good Luck and keep us all posted. big grin
