|
|
Hi,
Hope you can offer me some advice. I've just moved to Dorset and am very close to West Bay. I have a 10ft spinning rod/reel and am wondering if that will be alright to use on the beach there for mackerel, if so is there anything about now?
Also, are there any other species that I have a chance with using that set-up? Or should I invest in a beachcaster?
Any info gratefully received.

Ok here goes, your existing setup is ok so long as you keep your weights or lures within the casting capabilities of your rod. A beachcaster would be an asset if you decide to go for other species or if you needed to increase your weights. Hope this helps.
A warm welcome to the forum mate, they are a good bunch of lads and lassies on here. Tight lines. keith |

Well lucky you, I fish West Bay quite a lot and have covered most of the local marks on my blog ( www below ). The rod you have will be fine for spinning or float fishing from the beaches for mackerel and gar, it will be ok for bottom fishing in calm weather or from the piers.
If you want to borrow a beach caster give me a PM I've many lying around unused., I will be fishing a match down there on Sunday, you are welcome to tag along, why not join the club and have a go ?.... fishing with a club is by far the best way of picking up local info. |

Thanks very much for the tips. At least I know I've got something to start with. Will see how I get on and take it from there. Might well take you up on the lend of a beachcaster Tensenervoushaddock. Thanks a lot.
Will be back with more questions soon no doubt.
Cheers. |
