Hello

I know that Disney is really popular and has a really big marketting machine, but why does rod manufacturers have to get in on it and try to cash in?

I saw High School Musical 3 this week and shortly after I got Sea Angler and looking through the adverts, there is a Zipplex HSM - are they really trying to rip kids off at 300 quid a go ?

It makes me really mad to think that some kid will get 300 quid rod for christmas just becuase it has HSM on it.

I fully agree with your sentiments. I purchsed a rod some time ago that had cost me quite a few bob. After purchasing it I decided to have the butt modified, which of course pushed up the cost of the rod. Last night I had the oppertunity of selling it or another rod but instead pointed out a rod that would do a better job at a third of the price brand new and came in a hard case as standard. The chap wanted a reanonable casting rod with good bite detection and I recommended the Shakespeare Travel rod and had the added bonus of being able to be transported it the boot of the car. I think he was happy and thanked me for my honestey. Chers keith

I've got a new HSM - Expensive, but worth every single penny and when you consider hopefully it will last a lifetime, it will work out quite cheap over the next 40 years (I hope to live that long! lol)
If you can afford it go for it, if you can't go for it! you will love the rod.

My local tackle shop told me that Sonik spent £9000 on their adverts over the last two editions of sea angler in order to push their rods all of which are made from blanks made by Abu Garcia. Don't know how much of this is true but does make you think about what a manufacturer will do in order to sell their product......Colin
