What do you want to know Rabbi?

If it's pattern instructions then there some good stuff here:

http://www.aswf.org/saltwater_flies.html

with some nice video tutorials here:

http://www.aswf.org/mmedia/intro.html

I've done a few step-by-step instructions here:

Hey thanks you guys I didn't expect such a fast response as fly tying is not for everyone. I'll certainly let you know how I get on, and will post the results on here good or bad. Once again thanks. keith in blackburn.

If any of you regular salt fly fisher/tyers had to walk out of the tackle shop with one packet of hooks and a £10`rs worth of materials to fish all season what would you buy?[not inc thread & varnish].

Just £10!!! Might go slightly over budget but I could go all season with two bucktails (chartruese, white), pearl crystal flash, lead dumbells and a pack of strung cock hackles (white) and for hooks I would go for a size 2 O'Shaunessy bend.

That being said, it's like an addiction and I have 25 bucktails in 20 different colours, deer belly hair, goat hair, polar bear hair, rabbit fur, 3 expensive saddle capes + 5 or 6 packs of various strung hackles, tons of marabou, about 15 different shades and type of flash material, several different types of synthetic winging in various colours, various foam sheets, 15 different type and size of hooks, various dumbell eyes, stick on eyes, brass coneheads, chennile & fritz in various colours, rubber legs, body braids, about 10 different threads, a dozen diffent spools of tinsel, epoxy, special varnishes and some reflective sticky backed sheet.

I'm like a magpie whenever I go into a fly tying shop and the wife wont go into craft shops with me anymore.

Well I said I would post the results of my first attempt at fly tying on here. Well Iv'e changed my mind. You have never seen such a mess in all your life. I can just hear MJB giggling in the background. So Im afraid the rest of you will have to wait until I can get some private tution. One thing I will say it might look easy but it aint. A crestfallen Rabbi.

Post and be damned I say!

Seriously, my first efforts were appaling, but still caught fish 9before falling to bits). Post a piccy, we'll all have a giggle and maybe offer some advice as to where you went wrong.

Ok but I'll have to start again as I stripped the hook in disgust muttering to myself as my two stepsons laughed at it for about half an hour.

Keep em wispy rab , most things we try to imitate spend their lives trying not to be seen.My early efforts at a baby doll [white wool body, black head] came out looking like a badly washed sock! Frustrating at first but keep at it .

Less is more. When you think you have the right amount of material - halve it! Synthetics will foul on the hook very easily, which is why I rarely use them on their own. Tie the tail in at the start of the bend then use the hi-tie technique to fill the shank Another method is the dubbing loop, but that's a bit advanced).

Pics to follow shortly.
