Gave this popular North Clare mark a try Saturday. In the past it has been very productive and i heard through friends that the mackerel were in, this is useually a good sign for the rays. I must be one of the only people who gets no pleasure from the sight of a large pod of Dolphins , (or porpoise) hearding out what ever is in front of them. All my baits came back untoutched and I was only saved from a blank by a single mackerel that took a treble sandeel bait on the drop. It's back to the Shannon for me |

Back to Blackhead today. The dolphins were still there and i think they had brought some mates. At a guess there was about twelve of them. The only affect it seemed to have on the fishing was to drive the mackerel out. Started catching dogs with the first cast. Had one nice bullhuss about 5 lb. Also had 6 flounder, all on 4/0 hooks they were taking mackerel skin and squid the crabs had left. Things seem to be improving but still no ray. |
