Even a last minute reprieve and temporary stay of execution is better than facing an imminent death penalty, as this is what would probably have happened to our beloved pastime if sea angling license legislation had been passed, especially when judged on the rapid decline of sea angling participation which Portugal has experienced after it introduced similar measures in 2007.

f4f - I have to dispel this myth that angling in Portugal has been decimated - all the calculations assume that those who haven't bought licences have hung up their rods. Come on!

Absolute nonsense - the licence is only 6 Euros a year so wouldn't put anyone off. The truth is that no one has bothered with the licence because no one is policing it. My tackle shop in Lagos (Algarve) reports no loss in trade.

Thaty's not to say I support a licence in the UK because those b@st#r/s in Westminster would have wanted to charge us £50.

Hi Guys,
I wonder if the petition we signed had any influnce, anyway it is good news just hope they forget all about it now but i doubt it somehow.
