Can any help? I have bought a boat and will be launching it from Rye harbour slipway as its closest to me. I usually fish at winchelsea beach and pett level from the beach at low tide for bass. However, now i have a boat, i can fish out as sea but i have no idea of good spots to fish. I have a map with all the recks on it, but dont know which ones to fish, can anyone give me some light on good spots around the rye harbour/hastings area.

Thanks

Whitey

Hi i have my angling boat moored in Rye Harbour (Miss Molly). I have a few inshore wrecks that have produced good fish for me. If you see me on the water come over and i will give you some long and lat numbers to put into your GPS. If you do not have a GPS you are welcome to follow me out one day. Regards Rob.

There goes a man after my own heart, someone willing to share his good fortune. Most skippers keep there fishing marks to themselves.

If I go fishing from my boat, what bait do you recommend for all round use, I dont mind what I catch. I know live sand eels are good for bass, but they are hard to get hold of. What do you usually use when fishing from a boat?

Thanks

Whitey

Hi Whitey, thats a loaded question as there are so many species and venues to fish from in a boat. Then add seasonal migrations etc into the mix and it is hard to generalise!!!!.

I find the ground fishing goes a bit quieter this time of year as the Cod run has all but ended, but the Wrecks etc can still produce good fish.

I find for general boat fishing in Rye bay use whole fresh Black Lug on a 2 hook flapper, you should get plenty of interest from Schoolie Bass/Plaice/Whiting etc if you just want some fun. (On short tides (neaps) try drifting with a 2 hook flapper rig in the bay for good size Plaice).

The real action is on the Wrecks, use Shads/jellies/red-gills when drifting or in the summer Mackeral Flapper at anchor for Conga etc. Make sure you set the anchor correctly tho or you will fish to far away from the wreck (take into account drift/tide etc). This takes time to get used to so dont worry if you get it wrong the 1st few times, you are a Fishermen so perserverance comes with the turf!! Good luck Rob.

Hi Moderna, if i get a spare place on my boat during the summer i will let you know, you can join us one day. I usually work out how much Diesel i have used that day then split it by however many of us are aboard. Regards Rob.
