Has anyone tried or owns Shakespear travel rod? It seems to have a good write-up and can cast 4 to 8oz but is happiest at 5oz. The rod is in six sections and breaks down to under 2ft when packed away. This seems to be the ideal thing to keep in the car for those of us who decide to fish on the spur of the moment. Casting distance is reported to be in excess of 180 yds and retail approx £65. |

I would just love one. Already have a couple of salt beach rods which I am well happy with for the price. Bit short of dosh at present so will have to save up. I think you are right mate - keep it in the back of the car so that if the occasion arises you can quckly wet a line; also easy to take overseas on hols. |

BBM prolly broke it out of spite/not knowing how to use a rod/trod on it when p***ed. I confess to having busted a rod meself last year by trying to do something dumb with it like BBM. You can bust anything if you try hard enough with the possible exception of BBM's head. |

Just to get back on topic, last summer I was looking for a travel rod to take to southern spain for fishing the Med from the beach. Not knowing what other situations I would be fishing, I wanted something I could float fish, spin/plug with and also do some light paternostering or ledgering. I needed something the full 12ft but pretty universal. I bought myself a Fladen Maxximus traveller Universal. it has a 2.75 test curve, 12ft, more like a carp rod I am told. Its 5 piece, dosnt wiegh anything and comes in a really robust carrying tube.
Well what a lovely bit of kit, I ended up just basic paternostering from the beach as it was well capable of chucking out 2 or 3 ounces with no effort.
I have never freshwater fished or used light tackle before so this was a pleasure to use after using beachcasters. Had fantastic fun with all the bream like type fish I caught with it. The rod was around £75 but I well reccommend it.
Cant wait for the summer to try some spinning or float fishing with it. If anyone can recommend me a lure or two for bassing then please do. |

Have taken a few bass with my own made up lure rig: A drilled bullet threaded on a line to give some casting weight them a swivel to which I tie an 18 inch snood with a rubber eel on the end. If you do it choose as flashy an eel as you can find so the bass can see it easier. Ideal for estuaries and harbour entrances. |

I bought some 30g and 40g in-line weights while I was in Spain. Oval shaped designed for the line to run through. Is that what you mean Eccles?
Seems a good idea as I have been looking at lures with a bit of casting weight in them. |

Nice one BBM I have a load of lures that I puchase some time ago but never got round to using them. It's a pity were so far apart as you could have advised me on what to use for and when. I will however try to photograph them at a later date and post them on the forum. At the moment Im doing the same with my rods and reels. I got the ideal rod for you beachcasting and the reel to go with it. It will even bring a smile to your face. keith |
