Except fishing the Medina for flounders I dont have any marks I have fished at low water.
Again at Fort Victoria right on the point you can cast out into fairly deep water at low tide but it can be quite snagging.
Regards

I'm going to try the Medina tomorrow (saturday) at ebb & low tide for flounder. Going to to try a 2 hook flapper, 1 with rag worm and 1 with thin mackerel strip, will let you know the results!......Tight lines |

Fished the West bank of the Medina this Morning into the afternoon about 11 til 2:30. Was hoping to find a good mark to fish at low tide, but didn't have any joy, not even a bite. We fished 4 rods at a spot called 'rabbit island' its about a ten minute walk from the cowes end of the cycle track. I have caught flounder and bass there before, but on the flood not the ebb. Low tide at the Folly was 14:33 today. Had a bit of a nightmare because there was literally only a handful of ragworm in Cowes. We tried razorfish for a second bait, which seemed good when tied with elastic but I reckon it might be better for boat fishing because it didn't always survive the cast. No fish but it was a nice little trip out, the sun was shining through the valley. Be warned we nearly had a nasty incident with the swans getting hooked. |

Just had a phone call from a mate, he's just been to a local tackle shop who told him that someone has been netting the Medina and aparantly Flounders are rarer than rocking horse poo. Some people are just mindless idiots, muddy water flounders are hardly a delicacy anyway!! |

Better luck next time but always worth a go.
Do you get to the the spot you where fishing by going along the cycle path and then turning down a small gravel road to the river. If it is it is worth a look along the bank back towards cowes as I think it used to be a Victorian rubbish tip and the high tide use to uncover some interesting bottles etc

Yes, thats the spot. Lots of old bottles, pots, lids, even combs and toothbrushes!! All like a 100 years old. One time we a saw family of polecat ferrets down there, must be rabbiters that escaped. There was a nice little Egret down there today. It can be a good fishing mark on the right day too! |

Do you know if there have been many flounders about this year.
I use to have a dinghy on the river and like you say on the right day drifting around that area with a baited was great fun and quite productive.
Another spot worth trying if you haven,t already is the slipway at the Folly at low tide. You can bait dig will you fish I have had bass to 2 pound just as the tide start to flood. On the ebb the current can be a bit strong for light tackle |
