i thought the same about the quota but i do no that as of midnight tonight theres a cod ban on so lets hope that will give us and the fish a chance .im going to have a go again friday night rl post results maybe rl bump into you sometime down there .is pagham fishing anygood afta that blow last week .as for netting they should not be allowed to set or trawl within 1000 yards of the low water mark that will give all marine life a bit of a nersery area . |

pebble, I totally agree with you about the inshore trawlers, they wont be happy until theirs nothing left. Be careful what you say about them, there are those on this site who dont believe its the commercial boys who are causing inshore fishing to become a waste of bait and time !
I do most of my fishing in the Solent from a boat which I find is quite productive but still enjoy fishing from the shore when the sea is too rough. But I have to admit it is soul destroying at times. Ive fished with 20-30 anglers along Haslar sea wall for 5hours and not seen one decent fish caught. There was a time when you could almost gauruntee someone would catch a good fish, its very rare nowadays.
Hopefully sooner or later someone will get a grip of the inshore trawlers.
Sorry about the gloom and doom but it does pee me off
Good luck on friday hope you catch half a dozen cod to 20lb |

Not wishing to upset anyone, but if the nets are taking shedloads of fish so close to the shore, and yet the anglers are catching none, it would suggest that plenty of fish are there, but ignoring the anglers bait. If there were hardly any fish, the netters would be elsewhere, cos they dont waste their time and diesel if they can help it. Maybe the cod are up in the water chasing sprat or something? Its happening all up the East coast at the moment. |

i totally agree there im not poking at the trawler man thay do what they get paid to do catch fish its the goverment and no true boddy to look after the fish stock for the whole country its all split into groups we need proper limits and quotas not a quota for one and another for another that way were all be happy |

Hi Pigeon
I would assume like most area's at the moment the cod are feeding midwater on the sprats, hence us poor anglers using lugworm bottom fishing wont get a lookin.
The netters using their fish finders will know exactly what depth to shoot their nets and to be honest cod feeding on sprats its like taking candy from a baby as they shoal up in huge numbers purely feeding on the concentrated shoals of sprat. Easy pickings for a netter.
Your best chance is wait for a good blow to break up the sprat shoals and get out shortly after. |
