Hi guys and gals
Came across this whilst mooching around the net

http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/sea-angling/index.htm

This is all about what the government is planning for the future of sea angling. The document itself is a bit long winded but its worth a read.

Sea Angler magazine have just announced in the latest issue that they have been invited to participate in the discussion for the sea angling stratergy for england. I have already expressed my views to Mel Russ the editor. Hopefully their part in the discussion will be acknowledged by the government.
It is up to you if you contact the magazine to also express your views on conservation cool , fishing licences angry .
They can't express our views unless we tell them how we feel.

It's a great shame that there's a restricted list of consultees.

How about asking the bluddy anglers!

Who will they send I wonder, The problem is it appears certain people from sea angler have already made up their minds, dare I mention who I feel they will send as the sea angler rep!!! says it all really!! I'm gobsmacked that they feel an angling magazine is deemed to be the voice of Anglers, you have a massive organisation in the NFSA and they go and choose a magazine?? mistified!!! suprise

The NFSA have a list of all the clubs in the country, it amazes me why representatives are not selected from various regional clubs. You'll get an honest voice from anglers that way.

If you email Mel Russ with your true views perhaps he might attend instead of other team members.
I have been honest in my email.

I read the report a while back and whlie it seems positive towards RSA's, I don't trust them at all and they WILL shaft us.

As for Sea Angler being involved, I'm staying silent.

Has anyone actually bothered to look at the link? It has a list as long as your arm of consultees including the NFSA as well as other angling groups such as B.A.S.S. and many sea angling clubs.[/b]

You can respond: http://www.defra.gov.uk/corporate/consult/sea-angling/letter.htm

You could also join the NFSA. Apparently 'average Joe' is welcome. More members=more influence.

I read a paper that was given to me by a friend who has a hand in these things. It was entitled.....

Consultation on a Recreational Sea Angling Stategy for England.

Now it's tea time, bye for now.

I've printed off the document and will be reading it in detail before sending them my views.

However, a couple of points already occur to me:

1. Taxing ('cos that's what it is) something that people enjoy is always a soft option for a Government because people will sigh, shrug their shoulders and pay up in order to continue having their chosen fun. Remember what happened as soon as CB radio appeared in the early 80s - £10 per annum licences were introduced which provided no benefit at all to the people paying them. On the same point, how come no-one ever suggests licencing golf?

2. I already have a coarse fishing licence which covers me for a whole year. Now if I'm on a beach somewhere using my hypothetical Sea Licence it follows that I cannot possibly be coarse fishing as well so I must be entitled to a 1/365th refund on the Coarse Licence and vice versa if I'm Coarse fishing. As this will involve impossible amounts of administration I would suggest that it isn't worth bothering with bringing in a Sea licence!

Remember:
It is the sacred duty of all free Britons to make life as difficult as possible for bureaucrats!
Governments are supposed to be the Servants of the people - not their Masters.

Alfie
