ok im a bit late getting into this subject.....
i use a sandstorm and its the best rod i have used for sea fishing....from the experience of 3-4 different rods.....
as for the reel.....im not using a DIFINED sea reel, i use a Shimano Aerlex 8000 reel, which is, as far as i know, its a big gravel pit reel for carp, HOWEVER it is unbelieveably capable at sea fishing, its large spool holds alot of line...over 200 yards of 18lb however i spooled mine with some 40lb line and then 18lb line. Its reltrieve is smooth, and has a high ratio of line retrieve to winds. |

Envy you that reel mate but I still think the Sandstorm is a bit heavy having tried one of my mates recently. I prefer something a bit lighter and easier to use - presently saving up for the new Salt Beach 13ft 3 piece. |

yeah ive been out and tried one and your right they are stiff so ive gone for the 12ft diawa longbeam which felt a better weight and seemed to handle better than the sandstorm. |
