Hi all ive been looking at the Diawa sandstorm rod and wondered if anyone had one and if so what are they like. Im looking at the multi rung one so which reel would best suit this rod.
Cheers guys

I know at least two guys who rate it but have a look at the Shakespeare Salt Beach and Ron Thompson Carbostick as well before you make up yer mind - they are a bit lighter and still cast very well. |

I have two, the 13ft versions, and would give 7/10. Not an awesome rod, but a very competent rod. If you are a top long distance caster perhaps look elsewhere but it will cost £££'s. If you're like me (average medium distance caster) they are fine. |

Do you want a FS Reel or a multiplier? I have both but use the FS more than the multiplier because I feel more confident with it at night and it can wind in a lot faster. |

I've not used a sandstorm but if you havent already stumped up and can push the extra £20 or £30 you'd get more out of the Daiwa Supercast range. |

The ones I've used have been absolutely fine- good rod to learn to cast on and capable of decent distances. To be honest I've heard nothing but good reports about them but it depends on what you're using them for- I wouldnt necessarily use a standard supercast for rock fishing |

whats the long beam like in the 13ft length. As you can probably tell i like my diawa gear as ive used alot of there stuff when i was course fishing.
If the longbeam is ok i may go for that and mate it with the new ocuma multi reels. |

Simon
can't help you on the longbeam as my only experience of it is seeing Breads snapped on the beach at the joint
I'm sure if he sees the post he'll offer his words of wisdom on the rod before it broke.

I have a Supercast and it's a very good rod. It will not bite you on the a**e if you screw up and can chuck a lead a good distance. I was averaging 140-150 yards on the field with a best of 172 (a lucky moment I feel!. ).
I've upgraded again to Century CME telegraph poles (down Eccles, down I say ) but the supercast will still be making regular appearances-especially when I get it wrong and the CME tears my arms off! |
