Apparently frozen sand-eels are meant to do the job but all I end up with is dogfish.

Worm baits for flatties. I`ve had dabs on my top snood with a 3/0 with 2 or 3 lug on.

Yeah got to be worm mate although Dab and Flounder will take mackerel strip. All my sole this year took fresh lug - running ledger with size 2 aberdeens so they are not spooked by feeling the sinker weight.

As above, also if you can get hold of any peeler (obviously frozen) just a small bit with worm, does good and gets you the bigger ones (or should i say the hungry ones) plus not teaching to suck eggs but when it comes to flatties keep one bait real close as your "cast over more than you catch". Does anybody know where there starting to show?

Plaice... usually i use rag tipped with a long thin strip of squid, although i have had good results at times with lug/squid

Dabs... its got to be gutted lug with a black lug tipping....basically, cut the tail off your lug and squeeze its guts out and leave it on a piece of newspaper for a few m,inuts to dry out a bit- this makes it go leathery. Thread this onto your hook followed by an inch and half(ish) if black lug which you bind in place with a little elastic

Flounder... This depends on where you are fishing. In our local rivers we use very small king rag ( basically just like harbour rag, but you buy them instead of getting muddy haha), but in other places lug or crab is better

Sole... I use the same bait as for dabs, or a bunch of ragworm hook for about 20mm and with the tails dangling

has anyone targeted flatties just of weymouth by boat and when is best time of year or are they out all year round

i only have small boat and was wondering wether to try just outside portland harbour or along weymouth bay but only mile out or so

nice sandy beach there and i presume that is the sand that they like but could be wrong
