Sort of Newbie help (Shockleader)

I think most people use around 15lb for general all round beach fishing. However around 20lb may be better for rougher ground fishing.
The heavier (thicker) the line, the less distance you will cast. If your worried about dogfish or conger then its your trace you need to be thicker and dont forget your shockleader & rig body takes most of the stress.

Interestingly enough, I also use Okuma line but 20lb at 0.4 mm., and of course the Allbright knot. It seems to stand up to a lot of punishment - weed monster dragging and being tossed around in the shingle by the surf. I can cast well over 100 yds on a good day so I for one will stick with it. Agree with Andy that Conger handling is more to do with hook snood material - my mate uses wire but I don't bother with them meself.
