Hi Widgster, hope you get a reply from a local - I have asked this question several times since joining this site and never get a response.
My father lives in Pembrokeshire & I visit regularly. We often fish at Dale Fort as it is safe for my sons to fish from. Usually get small bass, eels, flounder and the odd bream.
Almost any beach holds fish. The following link is useful. Place a post if you have any success, I shall be there on Tuesday and will do the same

Pembrokeshire here, but all I've ever seen been caught from rod and reel is Mackerel, Rockling and Dogfish. The best spots are supposed to be Milford haven and Newport. |

Ah right if you're happy with those then I recommend Goodwick break-water. It's a good 1/5 mile out from the beach and is easy to get to. If you click on the link Paul gave you and then click on 'Fishguard' you can get a good idea of what it looks like. Not crumbling like a few break waters in the area
Other than that, you may want to try the Coast Path, which I believe is around 120miles in it's extent. Strumble head is supposed to have a wide range of fish but you may be put off by the light house and fog horn. Never fished there myself but I hear that the easier spots to access do get quite crowded on weekends.
If you want beach-fishing then as I said before, Milford Haven and Newport are your best bets, they both also have estuaries close by.
Hope this helps. |

Yeah of course it's still open, I see people walking their dogs to the very end and back everyday!
(That's if you're talking about Goodwick break-water). Been pretty rough around here lately though. You get a miserable rainy day, the sea is nice and calm. The sun returns and we get a very rough sea. |

Milford docks offers excellent fishing opportunities and is a very comfortable venue. You can fish for a variety of species including bass, whiting, pollack, pouting, dogfish mullet if you have the patience amongst a variety of mini species. On slack tides and an hour or so either side of low water offers excellent conger fishing.
The majority of beaches will throw up bass and flounders but fishing has been slow.
Martins Haven offers excellent deep water fishing for huss/smooth hounds/conger in addition to wrasse and pollack close in. Expect some tackle loss.
St Davids has some excellent deep water marks. Caerfai or Porthclais are always worth a try. Though tackle loss can be heavy.
Under the bridge Neyland on the Milford side can throw up codling and bass similarly Pembroke side Ferry Inn or Hobbs Point. A point to note about Ferry Inn is that there is a shelf you must overcome that can make fishing difficult. Lead lifts are a must.
I would also advise anyone planning to fish Pembs to give Martin at Anglers Corner in Milford Haven a call. He is very helpfull and will give you advice on most marks around the county. |

Thought earlier, he was probably thinking of the lighthouse. They stopped people going down due to 'terrorist threats' and now only angling club members can access it (Even though I've never seen any ads or meetings for them!) |

The break-water is about a 5-10 minute away from the lighthouse. The lighthouse is connected to the harbour whereas the breakwater is connected to the beach, they're both easily visible. When you're driving through, the breakwater is easily seen and accessed. |

Hi Widgster i went to Pembrokshire about 4 months back and took a fishing rod. I fished Monobier close to Tenby. It is beachy in the middle with rock on each side. We tried twice there blanked the 1st time but went back the second time which resulted with a 5lb bass which was nice. I also fished Lidstep rocks also a beach with rocks on the sides. Alot of people were fishing with spinners and fly rods which was resulting with little pollock but. I fished with big rod and castin multiplier and had a 2lb polloack and a couple more smaller ones. We also fished Saundersfoot wall which resulted with a couple of Mackrel and a small bass for my grandad.
We got all our bait and end bits from a very very helpful fishing tackle in Saundersfoot. The man in the fishing tackle shop will give you as much info as you want and will tell you where you want to go to catch the fish. Baits used were : Velvet softies, King rag, Yellow Tails, Musell and sand eel.
When going to Pembrokshire for a fishing trip you are literally spoiled for choice, the coast is just immense alot of places have been untouched and would chuck up some big fish.
Hope this helps.
