After finding that I freezed my wots'sits off on the 12th Oct on a mild night (I am and was already in the throws of a cold). I decided that I had best sort myself out some decent gear as we move more into the colder months.
Now, as I have mentioned before. I am a beginner to sea fishing. Preffering my warm nites being attacked by mozzies on a warm Carp lake.
Now, I have been looking at these survival suits. Judging by the lifespan coupled with the price, they arent a big expense (this is how Ill persuade the missus anyways).
The cheapest I seem to find that looks really worth the price is the Fladen Rescue System Floatation Suit
http://www.uk-fishing-tackle.co.uk/fladen-rescue-system-floatation-suit.html?osCsid=3eab25f1673435e0fda104ff6f6a3f65
The above link is by far the best price I found with the overall bill (shipping and all). It appears to be well made and has great reviews.
Thing is I wanted to see if anyone here uses such a suit, and whether they really do keep you warm!
Thanks
Nigel |

The survival suits do keep you warm, but can restrict your movements.
I would go for a two piece as you can then choose what to wear and when.
I wear a Halkon Hunt jacket with IMAX bib and brace.
Don't forget to wear a tie as all the best dressed sea anglers have them these days |

A tie eh?
Thanks for the advice mate, only reservation I have with the 2 pc is that there's a margin for my backside to leak the precious heat my well designed bicycle rack keeps!
Do they come down ya bum quite a way? Or do they expose a builders bum when hunched up on ya box? |

Don't use any of that stuff: Quality pair of thermal long johns with waders over the top. Topped off with thermal T shirt and quality Adidas Fleece, covered with beathable roomy waterproof. Gives me plenty of room to move and I can use the stuff for cycling and walking too. (Can't really go walking and cycling in a floatation suit can yer? LOL). OK so not quite good enough for winter boating but I don't take boat out in winter anyway (at my age it would be daft) |

Dunno if Veals still have the offer on, but they were doing the Anyfish Anywhere smock jacket and bib & brace for £70 all in. I have them and they are brilliant.
Make sure you keep a bit of money back for some decent thermal boots though. |

If its decent thermal boots yer after, go for the sundridge hotfoot boots. Fleece lined, warm in winter, cool in summer. As for keeping warm, bib and brace with lots of layers underneath. It's easier to find a level of comfort by taking off or adding as you need. Flotation suits are great for boats but I'm sure I would struggle with the flexibility issue. |

Walking or cycling? We are talking aboout fishing man! lol
Anyways, the general consensus seems to be that its a bit tight on the flotation suit. So, I see that the site I linked to does the 2pc at a slightly higher price. So thats settled, Thanks for the input gents.
Bread, funny you mentioned Veals. I found some sea angling videos online. Just watching them tonite, its all done by veals. I have been perusing over there site inbetween breaks from the video. Looks decent. Ordered a catalogue.

Just looked it up. They are indeed still doing that deal. Seems a fantastic price. But a closer inspection shows that they hold no thermal qualities....brrr
Dunc, thanks for the tip on the boots. Was to be my next question! |

layer up - if you get too hot in the floatie, you'll find it hard to cool off. If you have layers (as Dunc says) you can put things on/off to suit.
Also, you can wear the Anyfish in the spring/autumn as something to keep all the mess off your clothes - and it also goes through the washing machine too. |

What mess on yer clothes? If yers make it a rule not to go boozing and eating Indian takeaways on the beach, you don't get stuff on yer clothes..... Plus the beach is kept clean of beer bottles, cans and plastic packets. (Some hopes) |

Little tip here. I have a small (5 litre) bucket that I fill with seawater at the start of the session. I use it for livening up bait, keeping a bit of livebait well, erm, alive and for cleaning my hands off before drying them on my towell. It doesn't completely eliminate the mess but goes a long way to not putting lug/rag juice (and smell) all over the car on the drive home. |

Dam good idea Duncs and you can drink it when you've finished - better for you than all that beer. |
