|
|
Have a choice of fly rod.
A Cortland XC 9ft 8wt half price at £97.50
Ditto 10wt same price
Fenwick Iron Hawk 9ft 8wt half price at £60
Powerhead Phd 10ft 8 or 9wt half price at £65
Anyone had any experience of any of these rods?

| I've not used any of the rods mentioned, but I do have a couple of thoughts on your choices. Unless you're planning a trip outside of the UK I wouldn't bother with a 10 weight, it's too heavy for UK use. I'd also be wary of using a 10ft rod as well. The PHD rod was designed for reservoir trouting from a boat and you would find a rod as long as that tiring to use, especially if wading. |

Thanks for that, 9ft 8# it will be. Any rods in that price range you would recommend?

| There are several good rods in the sub-£100 bracket. Fulling Mill Classic (£65.95) and Gold (£99.95) series rods are highly rated [ available from Oz at www.uksaltwaterflies.com ]. I had a go with a Daiwa Wilderness (£85ish) recently and was impressed. Orvis rods are nice and their 'entry level' range (Streamline 908-4) has a 9' #8 for £75. Although slightly over £100, the Greys GRXi is worth a look. |
