Bit late writing this one but got a wekend fishing in last weekend around Plymouth. As it has been for ages hardly any wind so was looking forward to some decent bottom fishing.
Got to Plymouth around 8pm with highwater at 3am ish. Decided to somewhere close on Friday night so my dad and i chose West Hoe Pier - when we arrived thier was already a group of about 6 anglers who had decided to have a ghetto blaster turned right up while fishing. Any way it was a lovely night no wind, and i mean no wind - it was one of those rare times when there is no movement what so ever. The tide was small as well 4.2. Started fishing with rag and or rag/squid cocktail. We got a good few hours fun with whiting and dogfish. The dogfish were all good size, all around the 2lb mark.
Went home and got to bed around 4am. Up again at 8am and we had planned to fish penlee point which fishes well for big wrasse on small tides ( today was 4.5 ) and little wind. Got some more bait and off we went. Got to penlee around 12pm and to say it was bad is an understatement. From nowhere this easterly 5 got up and it was smack right in our faces - the ground lines were pointless and float fishing was very poor. After a while packed up and fished mount edgcumbe but it was only a couple of wrasse showing - a really bad dissappointing day.
Went home and got some sleep till 10.30pm and agreed to give West Hoe Pier another bash. Well can you believe the wind had gone away to nothing again and it was carbon copy of the night before - compltely still. Only difference was hardly any fish showed - a few bites and a couple of whiting. All very poor.
Left the pier at 3am and i drove straight home to gloucester - but i was sooooo tired i had to stop at taunton deane services for an hours kip.
cheers
