Just wondered if anyone uses braid for casting.I do. Not recommended for the inexperienced on a multiplier, but ideal on a fixed spool as the line lay is pretty far apart from the previous one. I use cable braid of 80lb, yep thats right 80lb right through, no need for shockleader. Its no cheap I know but well worth giving it a try.

I disagree. There's no stretch in braid so a shock leader is essential, not just for casting but to help when a decent fish makes that last bid for freedom.

Bit detection far better than mono with the added bonus of less resistance against the tide, if you set your clutch properly after casting there is no reason why a fish cannot be played.

Hi guys, just my tuppence worth. Ive been using braid for 10 years now, 50lb straight through, doesn't work with a shock leader, as Rabbi2 says, just set your tackle up properly and you got no problems.

BTW I only use fixed spool with braid off the beach also winking

I got mine cheap on Ebay
cool
I would recommend Berkley Whiplash Pro.
As Rabbi said it isn't cheap.
If you do a search on the net you will probably find a supplier with the cheapest price.

The whiplash pro is made by Berkley.
you would need to get a 300yd spool but they have started doing bulk spools. 300yds may seem like a lot but due to the low diameter you may need to have some mono backing on the reel.

For breaking strain anything from 50lb+ would be suitable depending on what weights you will be casting with.

whats the best knot for this stuff?

i think i'll be attaching my lead to the end of the mainline and then just tying on a snood above the lead.

should i use a weak link for rotten bottom?

which knot should i use for the swivel?

what rig do you use?

will a single snood with two hooks be ok? tougue
