Does anyone buy tackle of ebay, i've got quite alot of stuff of their lately mianly because the tackle shops near me only really stock muddy puddle stuff and hardly anything for sea fishing.
I tend to find that alot of the sellers are tackle shop owners using ebay as a side line.
i'd be interested to hear the views from those of you that live on the coasts as to how ebay compares to your local tackle shop. |

What do you think of the quality ebay vs your local tackle shop,
Like i said, ive bought loads recently off ebay mainly because i've compared ebay price with say veals price, but i have a niggling thought that i may be buying inferior stuff, do you get what you pay for with ebay or are you getting a bargain? |

Get stuff from ebay, mail order and tackle shops. Ebay you have to be careful but can often get stuff cheaper. Mail order often cheaper too if you hunt around. Tackle shop however if they are any good, give advice, recent local reports and let you physically browse around. You can't do any of this with the other two which is main reason why tackle shop still get's some of my money.
However, there are some tackle shops which do not have the right attitude to the customer and how they stay in business is a mystery to me. There are two within a few miles of me where the proprietor can be very off putting. In fact, one of them was so rude last time I visited that I will never go in again and I have told other folk to avoid him also. No, it's not just me, two other guys agree with me. |

Well the only size 4 hooks available at the local shop are Sakuma.
I buy packs of 100 size 4 Aberden hooks from Ebay.
Obvious the Sakuma are going to be much better quality due to bronzing etc but as I'm a newbie at fishing, it really doesn't bother me. They just feel stronger.
(4x Sakuma 4/0 hooks are £2.40, 100 Aberdeen size 4/0 from ebay are £4)
Around here, most people only fish for mackerel, therefore most of the baits in the freezer are months old! Not sure if this has any affect on bites but I would gather that baits bought online would be much fresher.
As for feathers, the pack of 25 I got from Ebay were much better quality. The ones from the Marina contain 4 red/yellow feathered size 1 hooks and a loop, that's all. The ones from ebay contain 5 size 2 hooks of different colours, each are slightly holographic and also a bead before each one. The trace also contains a hoop up the top but also a weight clip at the bottom. I find these much much better value. Only problem is I find they tangle alot more but I'm always happy to spend the time to untangle them, it's worth it. |

I am wary about buying rods and reels of ebay because there are thousands of grey imports being sold just at the moment. I buy from my local dealer, out goes wrong and its reaired or replaced with a new item. |

Yeah, i must admit i bought my rod and reel from veals, i could have got it for around £10 less from ebay but feared that it would be a dodgy import or fake.
I've had afew lures, some rigs and other stuff from ebay thought and its all good stuff. |

An awful lot of stuff is now made in China, even from the "reputable" brand names so I don't think it makes much difference. If a UK ebay trader wrongly describes something or sells duff goods, you have the same remedy as with a tackle shop by law. Also, most ebay traders who have been around a few years are very jealous of their rep and it would not be worth their while to risk losing it. I have a friend who does it (not tackle) and I know he would be mortified if he lost his 100 % rep. |
