From a very non expert opinion here Peak, the rod looks ok but would think its rung for a multiplyer, having said that the reel seat is ajustable so you may just get away with it.
The other problem I have is the 18" reducer, I just wonder how long it will take to loose by leaving it behind on a beach?
The reel looks ok, at that price you can afford to have it only last a season before having to renew it.
I did notice the Shimano Navi 7000 XSA, FS, but at 61 quid is more than what I assume you are looking to pay.
I still think you should sell your pond gear!  |

If you wanted to "dip your toe in the water" first you could use a carp rod and your baitrunner for spinning no problem...they are much better than most of the proper spinning kit about. If you have a carp rod capable of casting 2oz you could also bottom fish on the light tides no problem. I have a spod which will cast a fair distance and I use for feathering and fishing very light for Bass....just make sure you wash them all down when your done as the salt water kills em. |

Yeah I'm really not sure what to do, I think I need to talk to my local tackle shop, because my 'budget' is just going up and up!
A Daiwa Sand Storm Beach Rod = £85 - This is more than I really want to pay for a rod when, at this stage, I'm really not sure how much Sea Fishing I'll do. I hope to do a fair bit but there's no guarantees as life tends to be busy!
For a reel I'm looking at the Okuma eclipz EX65 = £40. Not got a clue if this is any good or not, I was just looking at price and line capacity to guide me.
If I buy the rod above I can also get a deal on a Shakespeare Delux Tripod Rod Rest which brings the entire lot to £158
Then say another £20 on line, £20 on a selection of weights, £15 on some pre-made rigs (to get me started) and I'm looking at over £200!
Eek!
Think I need to visit my local tackle shop, speak to them but also get a feel for rods at different prices and use that as a guide too.
£200 just seems like a fairly big outlay for something I've never done before, don't know anything about, and may not do as often as that kind of outlay would demand. On the other hand I know how frustrating it is to try and use a crap rod and reel. Ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! |

Ok, no mucking about, my first rod/reel was a Red Wolf 12 foot with FS reel. It cost £35 the pair. It has caught fish and, yes, I still use it from time to time for short stuff. It'll still go 70 yards on a good day though. |
