Please post your Tactics / Tips on how to catch Pollack in your local area here. Please remember in this part of the forum to click the reply button to post and Not the "New Post" button Also one main point to remember is that these new forums are intended to help totally new sea anglers to the sport so please post in great detail type of rods/reels used, explain about traces/rigs used, depth to fish and so on or anything else I have missed that you feel will help the novice sea angler.

OK here goes.....SCOTLAND, SHORE fishing from ROCKY POINTS. I use an 8foot ABU GARCIA enticer SPINNING ROD (think it was cheap about 30 quid), with this I used to use a cheap Okuma FIXED SPOOL REEL, However this proved to be false economy, after upgrading the nylon to 12lb breaking strain from 8lb , the line no longer got snapped but then the gears on the reel gave way under pressure when playing or trying to play a large fish. I now use a better Okuma fixed spool reel.
EQUIPMENT COMPRISES OF
ROD= 8` SPINNING.
LINE= MAXIMA CHAMELEON 12LB BREAKING STRAIN.
REEL= OKUMA FIXED SPOOL REEL.
TACKLE COMPRISES OF LURES/ WIEGHTS,
LURES= ABU TOBYS/NORWEGIAN PIRKS(JIGS), REDGILL SANDEELS(THOSE RUBBERY EELS YOU SEE IN THE FISHING SHOP!!!) I use wieghts only with the REDGILL`s as they need wieght However the TOBY`s PIRK`s DEXTER`s etc all DO NOT require extra wieght. LURE WEIGHT is determined by how fast the tide is / how rough the water is and how deep you want to fish them. Toby style lures and jigs are useful in that they do not need anything other than tied securely to your line.
REDGILLS NEED TO BE PUT ON A TRACE/BOOM/RIG WITH A WIEGHT ON THE BOTTOM. In this case i prefer to use short plastic booms with a strong/short trace about 8 inches long of 12lb with the wieght attached to 8lb (rotten bottom) nylon that will snap if the wieght gets snagged but still allow the redgill and boom to be rescued. WEIGHTS tend to be up to 14grams this seems just enough wieght to get the wieght to the bottom without putting to much stress on the rod for casting.
TECHNIQUE= Many would say I have none!!!! but here is what I do.
Find fishing spot, Find out tides and then arrive safely at chosen spot approx 2 hours before highest tide. Casting short distances as some of the best fish often are lurking only a few meters out. Retrieve lures in short jigs bringing in line by a few feet each time,let the lures sink as well as rise in the water, I usually give up as the tide falls(after about 3 hours), This has brought me many good fish and I hope it does for someone else!! Good luck. If anyone needs more info just ask.
