Sacha. I started sea fishing a year ago and fished for pike when I was your age. If I can give you some advice , try to work out who knows what they're talking about and those that don't. Regarding your casting have a look on you tube and search under pendulum casting and off the ground casting and you'll see the styles you're looking to learn. Start with off the ground and only move to pendulum when you've mastered OTG as pendulum is basically OTG with an extra bit at the beginning. OTG is simple. Turn your back to the sea and face inland. Lay your bait at two o'clock on the ground. Have about 3 foot of line from rod tip to weight and point your rod tip at the ground at 12 o'clock. Hold the rod butt in the air with your left hand as high as is comfortable for you and the reel/line in your right (I'm assuming you're right handed) so the tip is nearly touching the ground. You're then looking to spin your body round to point to where you want to cast at sea. While you do this lift your rod tip up and bring the butt down, the rod will bend when it takes up the weight and will compress, a bit like cracking a whip , this gives it the power. You then end by pointing your rod where you want the bait to go at an upward angle. Start with a tennis ball in a piece of net or wrap your weignt in bubble wrap so you can practise at a local park without killing yourself or other people. I spent several hours practising in a field and it really is worth it so you don't have to practice at sea when you want to be fishing. It is worth getting somebody who knows what they're talking about to show you and coach you. All the best, Neil
