Well i have enjoyed a cracking couple of days on Friday and Saturday. NOt so much for the fishing but for the weather - it was awesome.

Friday morning i fished Mountbatten Pier - my dad got lots of wrasse and pollack while float fishing with rag worm. However, i was float fishing mackerel strip with the hope of a gar or mackerel - but there was nothing doing, still it was sunnny and really warm all day. Friday evening we decided to go spinning at Slapton Sands and then night fish the same beach on the bottom. Well what an experience it was the most exhilarating evening spinning we have ever had. These shoals of mackerel regularly came in close and we ended a 3 hour session with 25. At one point we were casting in to the shoal hooking 2 or 3 reeling in taking them off and running down the beach 40 yards to catch up witht the shoal. After 10 mins or so the shoal would move on and we would walk back up the beach picking up the mackerel - have a cup of tea and a breather while waiting for them to reappear. Once darkness set in we put out the ground lines with fresh mackerel fillets for bait but the only success was Dogfish - we packed up around midnight.

Saturday we fished Heybrook Bay with again no real success - mountains of tiny wrasse to rag worm. No joke we must have had around 50 with a Goby anf big Rockling thrown in. It all became boring so i tried bottom fishing with no success.

Enjoy the photos and i am already counting down to my next trip in early July.

Hi mate,
sounds like an enjoyable session was had! Slapton is one of my local haunts and I live in Plymouth so regularly fish Heybrook and Wembury though am focusing on Saltwater Fly at the moment. Would have loved to have been in amongst those macks though.
Give me a shout next time you're down and maybe we can arrange a meet or something?
Cheers for now,
Rich
